RASMUSSEN (Denmark)

Meaning/Pronunciation: Pronunciation: Ras-mus-sen Meaning: Son (or descendant) of Rasmus

Origin: Danish

Variations: As a patronymic, I'm certain there are Rasmussdatter versions as well.

Relation to me: My Father's mother's mother's father's mother.

Ancestors:
i: Rasmussen, Maren, About 1817 – ?, Denmark?; Hans Nielsen, 5 known sons

Looking for:
I am not 100% certain that this name is correct, but I have gotten it twice now. The first was in a Danish Census that listed my great-great grandfather's name—Rasmus Hansen in a family from the right location, and at the right age. The second was on the Family Search.org beta site in the Danish birth records with a boy listed with almost his exact right birthdate. I've always had his birthdate listed as Oct 20, 1845, but the birth record lists the boy's birthdate as October 02, 1845. So at the moment, since so much seems to meet up, even despite his common name, I'm going to go with this until I have better info. However, I have nothing before Maren aside from the fact that her father's name was likely Rasmus (which would likely be where my great-great grandfather would have gotten his first name…).

About this blog

This blog is maintained by two sisters who have had a life long interest in geneology.
Mika writes here mostly about our family (Hansen, Hillinger, Bordewick, Park, etc), and her search for more information.
Shannon mostly uses this space as a place to make the many stories written about and by her husband's family (Holly, Walker, Walpole, etc) available to the rest of the family, present and future.

Our blog is named Oh Spusch! mostly because Shannon is bad at naming things. The first post I put up includes a story about the time Walker's great grandfather took his whole family out to see a play and the littlest kept saying "Oh! Spusch!" No one ever figured out what she meant by that.
