Surname Saturday 2.0: The Jensens

The Jensen Family

This is one of the longest lines in my genealogy, possibly the longest line. Christine Jensdatter was my grandmother's great-grandmother, born in Vejle, Denmark in 1834. Her line stretches back seven generations to a Christen Eskildsen who was born in the 16th century. That means that from Christen to me is twelve generations. Thirteen to my sister's and cousin's children. The only reason I've been able to trace back that far is because of a distant cousin in Denmark who I managed to get in touch with online. Through him, I have many Danish lines traced back much farther than I could have done on my own.

I know little enough about this branch, only that this family had long-time roots in this area, and that they had descendants there even in my own lifetime. I believe one or more were farmers, as that is what my great-great grandfather (Christine's son) did, though he also supplemented his living with masonry in the area. It was a skill he taught my great-grandfather, and one that enabled him to come to the US, and make a decent living here.

What I don't know:

Really, this line is good for now, until I get further back on my other lines. But I wanted to share it with those who had similar ancestry. If you've got anything I don't have up there, or questions about what I do have up, do feel free to contact me.

About this blog

This blog is maintained by two sisters who have had a life long interest in geneology.
Mika writes here mostly about our family (Hansen, Hillinger, Bordewick, Park, etc), and her search for more information.
Shannon mostly uses this space as a place to make the many stories written about and by her husband's family (Holly, Walker, Walpole, etc) available to the rest of the family, present and future.

Our blog is named Oh Spusch! mostly because Shannon is bad at naming things. The first post I put up includes a story about the time Walker's great grandfather took his whole family out to see a play and the littlest kept saying "Oh! Spusch!" No one ever figured out what she meant by that.
